After thinking about alternatives for a while, finding none, I decided I’d make the most out of what I had. From what I’ve heard, Lingvist is an Estonian-made app, and so I can imagine it wouldn’t be very hard to teach a comprehensive Estonian course for English speakers. I was almost immediately put down from the very limited word and phrase count, after having searched for months on end.
I downloaded Lingvist a few days ago because I have a passion for learning languages, and there are very few resources for learning Estonian out there. Please reach out to if you have other comments! It's evident that we still have room for improvement, thank you very much for the suggestions and we will discuss your idea internally. We appreciate your detailed analysis and feedback very much! Since our ultimate goal is to "hack" our brain by beating memory curves, Lingvist should prepare the cards you need to practice and revise after weeks or even months of absence. Great job, Lingvist team, now please consider those additions to the app. It’ll help you get to the point where you can reasonably understand most of the conversations others speak. Having all that said, I’ve completed the Rosetta Stone and Duolingo courses and they were okay for the basics, perhaps a few days travel in a country that speaks your targeted language, but this was the vocabulary breakthrough I needed to make German radio stations much more intelligible. I remember quite a bit of them, but after two months of not using them or more, it would be great if I could go back and review those words at-will. It desperately needs “levels” of some sort so we can go back and study all the words we’ve learned before.
Having all that said, there is one thing this app desperately needs-to understand we’re busy and we can’t always manage daily studying or even weekly studying. Absolutely worth the subscription price for the serious learner. Most apps give you just the basics and some structure-even Rosetta Stone-this app teaches you an immense amount of words. It’s everything you need to expand your vocabulary in German, Russian, French, Spanish, or Portuguese. The only thing I wish this app would include is the ability to utilize the enhanced siri/speech voices (like the ‘pronounce’ app does) utilizing the enhanced voices makes listening comprehension a lot easier, but either way, this app is absolutely amazing and an indispensable supplement for second language acquisition. Even further, this app helps you with word forms, grammar and even explains some concepts that would be confusing to a new learner. This app specifically is my favorite though, in just two session of about 20 minutes a piece, I have already seen a drastic improvement in my vocabulary retention. Together, all of these utilize multiple aspects of the language learning process to help you learn and retain the information.
